There is a tremendous growth and development in the Indian Academy of Echocardiography (IAE) since its inception in the last 23 years. The progress of IAE has been consistent not only in embracing and disseminating newer technologies in echocardiography, but also in education and standardization of echocardiography practices in India. The IAE has been instrumental in advancing the art and science of echocardiography in this country from M-mode echocardiography to three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography, left atrium (LA), left ventricle, right ventricle, right atrial strain, strain rate, imaging along with LA stiffness index evaluation, myocardial contrast studies and live 3D echocardiographic navigation, and utilization of multimodality imaging such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear imaging, and fusion imaging, thereby enhancing diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic power and potential of clinical cardiology. Enormous scientific data are presented annually in the Annual Conference of IAE covering all the aspects of echocardiography from very basic to highly advanced level. At the same time, the IAE is also engaged in conducting accreditation tests and various training programs and workshops, etc. The focus of IAE has clearly been on continuing medical education, publications, research, and innovations.

The official publication of IAE is the Journal of IAE and cardiovascular imaging (CVI) published by Wolters–Kluwer Medknow matching all the international standards. The first book of IAE will be released on the occasion of the forthcoming Annual Conference of IAE. There are further plans for enhancing publication arena in a robust way to create impact on the world. Simultaneously, research and registry projects are being undertaken by the IAE for data collection and creating guidelines for timely management.

A state-of-the-art IAE website was launched recently. The IAE is extensively using digital media including Google, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, tele-echocardiography, and webinars for enhancing the diagnostic skill of echocardiography, thereby facilitating timely and effective patient management.

The IAE has recently been focusing on community outreach projects to provide services to the needy and focusing on timely intervention to reduce the cardiac-inflicted morbidity and mortality.

IAE membership is also expanding by leaps and bounds not only nationally but also internationally. At the moment, there are 12 regional chapters of IAE actively engaged in the continuing medical education and public health education programs in the field of clinico-echocardiography.

I am very happy to express that, for the first time in the history of IAE, we have launched e-Newsletter, e-Members directory, e-Fellows Directory of IAE, and various special echo apps are under development. Global alliances are being created and strengthened to enhance the progress, growth, development, and innovations in echocardiography which is the main objective of the IAE.

There are totally 26 committees of IAE which are working together tirelessly for the progress of IAE. These include Publication Advisory, Scientific advisory, e-newsletter editorial advisory, e-membership directory advisory, e-fellows directory advisory, website advisory, International IAE Affairs and Scientific Advisory, national affairs advisory, PG Track advisory, Tele-echocardiographic advisory, Digital/Webinar Advisory, Research Advisory, Registry Advisory, IAE Heart House, Constitution and Accreditation Advisory, Credentials Advisory, Innovations Advisory, International Alliances-Asia Pacific Region, ASE Advisory, EACVI advisory, Guidelines Advisory, Convocation Advisory, Chapters Coordination and Report Advisory, Legal Ethical Advisory, Public Relation and Fund Raising Advisory, JIAE and CVI editorial advisory and editorship, Corporate Membership Drive Advisory, Membership Drive Advisory, Accolades, and Awards Advisory committees.

The criteria for awarding the “Best IAE Chapter Award” and the “Corporate Membership” initiative have been meticulously planned and will be executed soon.

Echocardiographic advances, especially emergency echocardiography, have really changed the pattern of cardiology practices in India under the leadership of IAE. Echocardiographic navigation in every cardiovascular disease from head to toe is the need of the hour for meticulous medical management planning and the IAE has been playing a leadership role in this regard. Under the supervision of the IAE, there has been a paradigm shift in the ECHO Education program from data-based presentation to case-based presentation to enhance the diagnostic skill.

Training to enhance competency and the level of understanding of echocardiography remains the main agenda of the IAE.

I am sure that the emerging progress and development in echocardiography is of huge clinical relevance in the patient care in every discipline of medicine.

I wish to express my gratitude to all the past presidents, past secretaries, executive committee, contributors, and supporters of IAE for infusing enthusiasm and dynamism in the IAE and for bringing it to the heights where it stands today.

My special thanks to Dr. S. C. Govind, Editor-in-Chief of JIAE and CVI, for his hard work in bringing the state-of-the-art second issue of JIAE with innovations which include editor's page, expert document, original investigations, contemporary topics, review articles, case reports, and interesting images.

I also express my special thanks to Dr. Manish Bansal, hon. secretary, IAE, for his contribution, devotion, dedication, and dynamism for significant academic and value addition to the IAE.

IAE is very privileged to have outstanding academic and advocacy committee with strong leadership.

Long live IAE to create a global impact.

The important thing is not to stop questioning.”
